Last night Angel One was honoured to attend Lion’s Lair, an annual competition held by Innovation Factory and the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, which brings together the entrepreneurship and innovation communities in Hamilton. The evening allows for 10 companies to pitch their ideas to a panel of top business experts – the “Lions” – for a chance to win over $100,000 in cash and in-kind resources.  The Lions this year included Angel One’s own Julie Ellis, co-founder of award winning Mabel’s Labels, as well as Dilys D’Cruz Vice President Community Banking at Meridian Credit Union, Michael Macaluso President of CARSTAR North America and Ruth Todd a KPMG Enterprise Advisor.

After welcome cocktails and networking, attendees were seated for dinner and the 10 finalists were profiled by pre-recorded video clips of their pitch to the Lions. The finalist were from of many different sectors, such as aquaponics, veterinary medicine, apparel, chemical solutions and marketing services. To increase attendee participation, Angel One investee Weever Apps moderated a real-time voting app that resulted in BridesMade winning The People’s Choice Award. BridesMade is a rental dress business tailor-made for the Bridesmaid industry, offering young women everywhere a custom fitted alternative to purchasing expensive dresses that are rarely worn more than once.
